The Kimia Project works to achieve four objectives: 1) increase access to quality PMTCT services; 2) increase access to quality HIV care and support services; 3) expand coverage of HIV services in TB screening and treatment centers; and 4) increase access to quality HIV treatment services. Kimia’s strategies for achieving these objectives are based on EGPAF’s experience working in DRC and other countries. These strategies include: leveraging PMTCT interventions as the entry point for a comprehensive HIV continuum of care; strengthening integrated clinical services through implementation of a multi-pronged, coordinated approach at national, provincial, and zonal levels; employing peer support groups to improve adherence and retention in PMTCT and HIV services. Some cross-cutting interventions will be implemented to reinforce the implementation of the project strategies, such as increased access to SGBV services and supporting data quality and data use at the health zone and facility levels.EGPAF is working with CDC to merge the two mechanisms (Kimia and Malamu) at the end of the FY2014.Thus,the project will be implemented in 3 provinces :Kinshasa ,Katanga and Province Orientale .Currently, EGPAF is implementing Option B+ in 14 health facilities under the Malamu project in Lubumbashi and is moving to the scale up of Option B+ in all 277 (101 under Malamu and 176 under Kimia) supported sites.Various models will be used by the EGPAF team to increase access to, retention in and acceptability of services such as support groups, including the mentor mother approach, the“peer-to-peer” site model for PMTCT; the “zonal approach” to support sustainable service delivery to ensure transition, and the family-centered model of prevention, care and treatment and CQI.
